La Arena, Peru
Journey with Us -
WEEK ONE:
COMMUNITY IMMERSION & GLOBAL LEADERSHIP FOUNDATIONS
June 27: Participants arrive and settle into their lodging, with the evening reserved for rest and adjusting to the new environment.
June 28: A gentle first day focused on unpacking, settling in, and getting acquainted with the community. An informal orientation and Q&A help participants understand expectations.
June 29: Scenic 2-hour private transfer to Casa Yanapumas, located in the rural community of La Arena (Km 153, south of Lima). Midway through the journey, we stop in the coastal village of Pucusana. Enjoy a boat ride around a small offshore island to
observe marine wildlife, including sea lions, coastal bird species, and, if we’re lucky, Humboldt penguins, the only penguin species found in Peru.
June 30: Orientation Walk through the community, allowing participants to become familiar with daily life in La Arena, followed by a formal welcome meeting with the Junta Directiva de la Comunidad and a visit to the facilities of the public primary school “La
Arena Baja - San Vicente de Cañete.” Participants are then introduced to the school principal and teaching staff, followed by a protocol meeting and the formation of collaborative teams made up of local teachers and visiting teachers.
June 30 - July 3: Over these three days, participants engage in hands-on, collaborative classwork alongside their Peruvian colleagues. To include classroom observation, co-planning lessons and activities, sharing teaching strategies and methodologies, supporting classroom sessions, cultural and pedagogical exchange. These days are designed to foster mutual learning, professional growth, and genuine connection, allowing both visiting and local teachers to learn from one another in a real school environment.
July 4 - 5: Nature & Culture Escapes: After several meaningful days of collaboration, this first weekend is designed as a time to rest, recharge, and explore the surrounding landscapes of coastal Peru. Teachers will travel to Paracas National Reserve, Ballestas Islands & Huacachina Oasis for a two-day one-night relaxation retreat.
WEEK TWO:
IMPLEMENTATION, LEADERSHIP & CLOSURE
July 6 - 10: Teachers will focus on planning and implementing meaningful professional development workshops for local teachers. To include Teacher-driven collaboration and optional workshops, co-teaching, observation, and shared practice, flexible peer learning with local educators, informal strategy exchange and resource sharing.
July 11 - 12: Farewell weekend and celebration: Celebratory weekend cultural activity and farewell dinner.
Optional: For those who wish to extend their journey, we offer a 3-day/2-night experience through the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu (at an additional cost). This iconic extension blends Andean landscapes, living culture, and ancient history, offering a meaningful farewell to Peru and a deeper connection with its heritage.
